Health Science Parking Garage

University of Louisville

This parking expansion project involved the construction of a 675,000 square foot parking structure.  The new facility provides 1,750 additional parking spaces for university health science staff and students.  In addition, approximately 6,500 square feet of retail space will be available at street level.

Loftus Engineering was responsible for all aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering and design.  Close coordination was required between the parking structure design team, an adjacent research building design team, and the local power utility to maximize the footprint of the building, coordinate utilities to both new buildings, and allow construction access to both project sites concurrently.

Mechanical systems include HVAC for the structure’s elevator, electrical, security, and revenue control system rooms, as well as wash-down water distribution, storm drainage, and fire protection.  Electrical systems include a standby generator for emergency lighting and controls power, daylighting controls, and fire alarm.
