Julia M. Carson Transit Center

Indianapolis

The new Julia M. Carson Transit Center became the new hub for public transit in Indianapolis when it opened in June of 2016.

The transit center includes 19 covered bus bays with real-time bus schedule information, free internet access, public restrooms, customer service desk and indoor waiting area.  In addition, a bus driver break area and restroom, as well as street level retail space, are provided.  The upper level of the transit center building is finished as an office, conference and event space, for use by the community or a future permanent tenant.

Loftus Engineering was responsible for all aspects of the mechanical and lighting design.  HVAC for the open, two-story waiting area consists of a displacement ventilation system.  All indoor and outdoor lighting is LED, and designed to react to available daylight.
